Today is World Mental Health Day. The emphasis this year is on Workplace Wellness. The reason I chose a photo of a mountain is because mountains feel so solid. When I live in mountaneous regions, I count on seeing the mountain daily and it brings me solace. Workplace Wellness has to do with choosing ways to lessen stress in the workplace.Many facators contribute to work stress. Here I mention only two. First changing the physical environment to be more user friendly is often painless and easy. Mostly though, work stress comes from a lack of kindness in the workplace. It is now commonplace to be unkind to our fellow human beings. Let us be uncomfortable when the environment is unkind. We need to begin with our relationship to ourselves. We need to treat ourselves with kindness and avoid negative self-talk. I hear people say terrible things about themselves everyday. Things that we would never say to others. Changing our negative self-talk makes being kind to those around us much easier. This is an aspirational goal, but it is easily achievable, and something we can control. Let this day be an excuse to be kind and compassionate toward one another. Happy World Mental Health Day!
